Welcome to
Year 6
Principal and Year 6 Teacher
Mrs Z Bayley
A welcome from the class teacher...

Welcome to our Year 6 class page. We hope that you find all of the information that you are looking for.

My name is Mrs Bayley, and I’m thrilled to be teaching your child this year! I’ve been teaching for 13 years across both key stages, but predominantly Year 6. Before my University days, I had a variety of roles from Beauty Therapist to Office Adminstrator to Medical Secretary for The Football Association. I also spent my time raising my two boys, who are now grown up and off on their own adventures. Outside of school, I love travelling and exploring new places, and I really enjoy spending time with friends and family – whether it’s sharing a meal, catching up over coffee, or planning the next trip!

I’m looking forward to getting to know your children and working together to make this a fantastic year of learning. Year 6 is such an exciting time — full of new challenges, opportunities, and memorable moments as we prepare them for the transition to secondary school.

In our classroom, we value respect, kindness, curiosity, and perseverance. We work hard, support each other, and celebrate every success: big or small. This year, we’ll be exploring fascinating topics, developing our skills in reading, writing, and maths, and enjoying creative projects in science, art, and beyond.

I believe learning should be engaging and inspiring, so expect plenty of hands-on activities, teamwork, and opportunities for pupils to shine in their own unique ways.

We provide many extra curricular opportunities for our children and our Year 6 cohorts leave our school with so many wonderful memories.

Here’s to a fantastic Year 6 — let’s make it one to remember!

Year 6 in action
Curriculum Promise
Black History Month
For Black History Month, we explored the work of artist and author, Faith Ringgold. The children created wonderful artwork to go with their stories.
RE
Diwali
Our Year 6 journalists presented a Diwali assembly to the whole school. They shared stories, facts and discussed artefacts.
Science
Electricity
We love experimenting during our Science lessons. We investigated the effect the number of batteries had on the brightness of bulbs.
History
WWII
Within our History lessons, the children carry out independent research called 'Learning Labs'. They use this information to demonstrate their understanding of a topic by developing an independent piece of writing.
Maths
Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
The children work hard during their Maths lessons as they begin every lesson with a Tough Ten. This is then followed by Challenges 1-3 and if they need to be stretched further, they can also access the tricky reasoning and problem solving tasks called 'Stinker 1 and 2'.
English
Rehearse lessons
We follow a 5-part writing cycle during our English lessons: read it, rip it, rehearse it, write it and revise it. The cycle leads to an independent piece of writing. Alongside our writing cycle, we also implement Ros Wilson's VCOP and Alan Peat sentence types to enhance their writing techniques.

Useful Websites for Year 6 Pupils

Times Tables Rock Stars

We subscribe to TTRS so your children can have daily access at home and at school to this fantastic times tables resource.  There are a wide range of different game types for the children to explore whilst developing their times tables knowledge and fluency.  In the background, the site learns the areas your child might be finding more challenging and exposes them to more questions in these tables to help them improve.  We would recommend around 5-10 minutes practice per day.   If your child has forgotten their login, we can provide a copy.

IXL

IXL has a wide range of resources available by year group and by subject. Covering both maths and English, the subjects are broken down into skills with a selection of questions for the children to try.  As the SATs are based on the whole of the curriculum from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6, the site offers an excellent source of support for the children.
